I just realized that I hadn't finished up our trip blog yet, so here goes!
Mesa Verde National Park is a pretty unique park, in that it doesn't feature the natural wonders of a typical National Park, but rather focuses on the people that used to live here. Inhabited by various groups from about 7500 BC on, it was abandoned in about 1285 AD because of environmental and social instability. It offers a fascinating look into the history of the Four Corners Region of the US.
We also visited Durango and rode the historic Durango and Silverton Railway, an old mining train that just carries happy tourists these days
